Glowfly for Android by Spiderfly Studios
Convenient notifications for new SMS/MMS messages, missed calls and battery level alerts that are highly customizable to suit your needs and style. Extend the notifications with our ever growing catalog of themes and plugins. When using Glowfly for Android, you will need to disable system notifications for SMS/MMS and any other notification types you have active via plugins. This will prevent duplicated notifications. You can even assign a different theme to various contacts to make those popups stand out.
We have taken the concept of popup notifications, re-wrote the code from the ground up and are expanding upon it by adding user requested features such as multiple unread popup scrolling, themes and 3rd party plugins. Other features include: delivery reports, customization of the popup, long press options, reminders, quick replies, inline MMS images and more!
50% of all proceeds will be given to a cancer patient in need. Together we can stand up to cancer. Please give the app 5 stars, a great comment/review and share the app with your friends and family. Thank you for your support and all the nice reviews! Reviewing the app helps us out a lot by giving us valuable feedback that lends to future development.
**TIP** We have now given Glowfly access to other apps. One great use of this is already built into Android. Simply go to your widgets/shortcuts and set a new direct message for a contact. When you click on that shortcut you can choose Glowfly. Doing so will bring up the quick reply window where you can send a quick message.
What others are saying
An ICS-themed SMS/MMS popup app – sign me up! So far I haven’t seen anything even remotely as good-looking, even in the most popular SMS apps out there – they all seem cheesy and all over the place. Well done, Spiderfly Studios.
So you find that the Handcent notifications are too dull or the stock messaging app notifications are just too simplistic for you? Well great you’re in luck because Glowfly brings a solid alternative of notification alerts for all you obsessive texters out there.
The real beauty of this application isn’t what Spiderfly Studios has created in the UI. It isn’t the amazing functionality that it brings to your notification system. The real beauty of this application is what happens to 50% of the proceeds when you purchase this application.

Why won’t the unread count on the SMS icon clear?
If you are experiencing this, then you are using a Samsung or HTC device. Welcome to something called “Android fragmentation”. This means that these manufacturers have strayed away from standard Android code to accomplish something custom. In this case, a custom unread counter on the SMS icon. Neither manufacturer shares their code with developers. This means that many SMS related apps are affected by this. Despite this we are looking for a working solution and hope to resolve it soon.
What makes this app different from others like it?
Glowfly for Android is an extensively tested and well designed app. Aside from the many features we offer that the others don’t, we actively listen to our users to find out what it is they would like such an app to do. Find a bug? We’ll fix it. Have an idea for a great new feature or one to improve an existing feature? Let us know and we’ll consider it and/or add it to a future release. We have great customer support. Simply message us via email, Facebook, or Google+ and we’ll respond to you ASAP. Finally, a portion of all our mobile app sales goes directly to a cancer patient in need. Not only are you purchasing a great app, but you are doing some good as well. Two birds with one stone!
Does this work with Google Voice?
Yes. In order to get Glowfly to work with Google Voice text messages, you will need to go into the Google Voice app settings and tell it to use the phone’s sms app to send and receive messages. The plus to doing this? You get the same great notifications for your Google Voice text messages as you get for your system ones. The down side is that according to some users, when using this method only the incoming Google Voice text messages are free while the ones you send appear to come out of your cell plan’s sms quota. This is unverified. All of these messages are sent and received with your Google Voice number and not your cell number.
Does the app do anything other than SMS/MMS alerts?
Yes. We will be adding to our repository of plugins for the app that will extend the app’s functionality to other alert types. You will get to pick and choose which themes and plugins you want without being forced to have features that you will never use. Note that we are not using the accessibility feature of the Android OS. This means that in some cases we will be limited to only the notification types that have and open API for accessing them. This means that we may not be able to release a plugin for a third party app until they allow it. Why do we not use the accessibility feature? Simply put, its safer for your device to not have that feature turned on. Doing so can make your device open to attacks by malicious apps. So we feel we made the right choice in not going that route. Have a favorite app that serves up notifications and would like to have popup alerts for those notifications? Contact that app’s developer and urge them to contact us about creating a plugin. If they agree to it, we’ll do it.
How do I add or change themes?
Once you have installed your theme pack(s) of choice, you can set them in two ways. The globally used theme can be set by going to the Glowfly settings screen and choose ‘Select Theme’. There you will find a list of the themes available to you. You can preview the various themes by clicking the icon to the right. Simply click on on a theme to set it. You can also select a specific theme for different plugins by going into their respective menus. Finally, if you have any custom contact notifications set up, you will find an option in that setup menu as well that will let you choose a theme.
Can popups be shown over the lock screen?
Yes. In the Glowfly settings menu, go into ‘Advanced Settings’. There you will find a wide range of finite control options and experimental features. One of which is the option to show the popup over the lock screen.
